Daniel Abrams

Abrams Utbildning AB is a partner business where I, Daniel, am involved with most of the efforts you find on abramsutbildning.se, both as an educator and more purely as a psychologist in individual contacts. You can read more about my background further down the page.
A more personal angle is offered by the interview that Nya Lidköpingstidningen devoted almost a full spread to on 30 January 2026:  → PDF in Swedish   → English, plain text

Daniel's previous work

I have been a licensed psychologist since 2004, but initially worked practically in the construction industry and as a truck and bus driver. Traveling with aid work was also a theme for some time.

From 1997 to 2003, I worked full-time in psychiatric emergency departments and wards in Malmö and Gothenburg. It was during this time that I completed my psychology training. I also studied sociology, sexology and business administration during those years – a total of just over 10 years of full-time studies.

From 2004 to 2011, I was the director of the Sahlgrenska University Hospital's (SU) Competence Center for Schizophrenia. I also taught at the psychology program at the University of Gothenburg during this time.

From 2011 to 2022, I was the R&D manager for various parts of psychiatry at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, sometimes with the title of operations developer or education manager ( R&D stands for Research, Development and Education).

This work was at Psychiatry Psychosis within SU, which is Europe's largest psychiatric clinic with 400 employees and nearly 3,000 patients with psychotic illnesses.

I am also a relative of people with serious mental illness and approach the issues I work with from that angle as well.

A selection of some of the different commitments I have had over the years:

  • Taught at the psychology program at the University of Gothenburg for several years, mainly courses in group psychology and theory of science . Also qualitative research methodology and work psychology, including teaching at the doctoral level.
  • Teaching ethics and treatment for several years in the course Complex Psychiatric Needs at the Department of Neuroscience, University of Gothenburg.
  • Trained around 3,000 people within SU and the City of Gothenburg in the award-winning three-day training Interactive Management (IB) – in practice MI applied to conflict situations.
  • Was seconded to the National Board of Health and Welfare in Stockholm for two years to work on knowledge and research compilations. Also has ongoing expert assignments for the National Board of Health and Welfare in the area of psychosis and schizophrenia in 2025.
  • Methodologist for the Västra Götaland Region's training in IPT-k (Integrated Psychological Therapy - cognitive training) including implementation and supervision 2012–2022.
  • Trained Swedish psychopsychiatry in the anti-stigma treatment NECT (Narrative Enhancement Cognitive Therapy). It includes approximately 1,000 of the approximately 3,000 people working in psychosis care in Sweden.
  • Worked with crisis interventions in working groups of many kinds where cooperation problems and situations of threat and violence are the problem, especially within municipal activities such as housing, housing support and daily activities.
  • Management supervision and consultation, including within Sahlgrenska University Hospital's management development program for several years.
  • Trained in the methodology for Event and Risk Analysis and has personally conducted close to 100 extensive investigations of patient suicides in adult psychiatry.
  • Currently working as a teacher at Vara Folkhögskola , where I teach psychology and psychiatry in the Social Education Program.
  • From 2025 onwards, I will also be the association psychologist for the Schizophrenia Association and provide advice to the association's members.
