How can psychotherapy help?

Psychological treatment can reduce symptoms such as anxiety and low mood, help counteract stress, and be of support in relationships. It can also be a space for personal development and for finding your own priorities.

In psychotherapy, you have the opportunity to see patterns more clearly, gain insight, and take steps towards living in closer alignment with who you are.

About me

I am a licensed psychologist with more than 25 years of experience in adult psychiatry. Since 2024, I have also served as National Psychologist for the Swedish Schizophrenia Association.

My strength lies in a broad and integrative perspective: I have solid knowledge of psychiatry, social work, and the healthcare system, but also long experience with alternative lifestyles, sexology, and existential questions.

I offer therapy in both Swedish and English, and integrate several complementary methods depending on your needs.

Methodology

Behaviour Therapy and Existence

People change primarily through new experiences. Ideally, these should be positive ones – and for that to happen, they must occur in a way that allows a sense of personal control. That is the essence of Behaviour Therapy (BT): a structured and practical way of creating change. We focus on what you do, what maintains the difficulties, and what alternatives are available.

A short YouTube video (15 minutes) explains this approach in more detail, particularly in relation to anxiety.

But life is also an existential phenomenon. Being human is not simple – the world can be an inhospitable place. It often takes much just to maintain balance, and even more to truly feel well.

How should one approach the task of being human? Many people wish to live authentically – to live their own life, not someone else’s. For those struggling with such questions, therapy becomes a wider conversation, with a broader perspective.

Complementary methods

  • NECT (Narrative Enhancement & Cognitive Therapy) – an evidence-based method to counteract stigma
  • Interactive Approach and Communication Training – strengthens interaction and conflict resolution
  • Sexological competence – understanding alternative lifestyles and sexuality
  • Psychoeducation and cognitive techniques – concrete tools used as needed
  • Body, health and lifestyle change – integrating health pedagogy where relevant
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) – working with ambivalence and uncertainty in change processes

Severe psychiatric conditions

Severe psychiatric illness can rarely be treated through psychology alone. It requires collaboration between several professions.

About psychosis

A few specific words about psychosis and private psychological support: People living with psychosis or psychosis-related conditions generally need a coordinated network of care. Psychosis treatment is by nature multidisciplinary – combining medical treatment, psychological and social interventions, rehabilitation and family support.

I therefore do not offer private psychological treatment as a substitute for psychiatric care, but as a complement. The same applies to other severe psychiatric conditions.

How it works

We begin with a careful review of your situation and the difficulties you experience. Together we explore how the problems appear in daily life and what you want to achieve through therapy.

After the first or second session, I describe my assessment, propose an approach, and check how this sounds to you. I also provide an estimate of how many sessions may be useful – sometimes just a few, sometimes a longer process, up to around twenty sessions.

This way, you know from the start what the therapy may involve and roughly what it will cost. You then decide whether you wish to continue.
