The meetings are conducted via Teams, in a venue (or a combination) and consist of 8 meetings . Each meeting is a double hour with a break in the middle. The format provides space for both joint work and reflection, without being too intense.
The group is carried out as a commissioned effort or by special agreement. For questions about the structure, adaptation or participation, please contact us for dialogue.
What is NECT?
NECT stands for Narrative Enhancement & Cognitive Therapy . In Swedish, the subtitle is sometimes used : Developing your personal story and reducing self-stigma .
The methodology was originally developed for people with mental illness, but can also be used in support groups . In this form, the focus is not on treatment or problem solving, but on how stories, beliefs and self-interpretations affect how one sees oneself in the role of supporter.
There is a workbook for participants , adapted for close-knit groups, which provides structure and support during the meetings. Printed workbook included.
Why can this be helpful?
Being close to someone with mental illness can be a long-term burden. Many relatives describe that over time you carry not only worries and responsibilities, but also perceptions of yourself – as a parent, partner, sibling or child.
- to begin to question one's own worth or judgment
- to take on debt that is not really one's own
- internalizing myths about families of people with mental illness
- feeling alone, misunderstood, or silenced in their role
The NECT group provides an opportunity to pause and examine such stories, rather than getting stuck in them. The work is done gently, through conversations and simple exercises, without the requirement to share more than you want.
Structure in brief
- 8 digital meetings (Teams)
- 2 x 50 minutes per meeting, with a break
- Small group for safety and conversation
- Workbook used in the group ( printed copy included )
- Led by a licensed psychologist (Daniel Abrams) with many years of experience in NECT and family work
More than one discussion or support group
This is not an open discussion or support group in the traditional sense. The group is based on a structured, manual-based method with a clear therapeutic focus. The work is led by a licensed psychologist and follows a fixed structure with defined themes, exercises and reflections.
The aim is not primarily to share experiences or give advice, but to work actively with how beliefs, self-interpretations and personal stories are formed in loved ones over time – and how these can affect both well-being and scope for action. In this sense, the group can be understood as a group therapeutic intervention, rather than as a general support activity.
The group is carried out within the framework of health care, with confidentiality in accordance with current regulations.
